Backyard beekeeping basics—learn hive setup, bee behavior, and seasonal care with Michael Dellemonico at Cottonwood Urban Farm.

Curious about keeping bees at home? Join us at Cottonwood Urban Farm for an introduction to backyard beekeeping with Michael Dellemonico.

This hands-on workshop will cover the fundamentals of starting and maintaining a healthy hive. Whether you’re a gardener, homesteader, or simply interested in supporting pollinators, this class will give you the knowledge and confidence to begin.

We’ll explore how bees function as a colony, what equipment you need to get started, how to safely work with a hive, and what to expect through the seasons. Michael will share practical, real-world experience to help demystify beekeeping and make it approachable for beginners.

Topics include:
– Understanding hive structure and bee behavior
– Essential equipment and setup
– Hive placement and seasonal care
– Basic hive inspections and safety
– Supporting pollinators in an urban environment

Come spend the morning learning, asking questions, and connecting with others interested in working with bees and building resilient backyard ecosystems.
